Apple Taps Intel to Build Chips on US Soil
Apple and Intel have reportedly agreed a deal for Intel to fabricate Apple-designed chips at its US plants, sending Intel shares up 9%.
President Trump announced that Apple and Intel have agreed a deal for Intel to manufacture chips for future Apple devices at its US fabrication sites. The partnership appears limited to legacy and older-generation silicon, since Intel can't yet rival TSMC on the cutting-edge nodes Apple's flagship iPhones need.
Intel stock jumped about 9% pre-market on the news. The chips stay fully Apple-designed — Intel only joins the manufacturing side, potentially giving Apple an alternative to TSMC over time.
