The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has cleared a second carcass-feeding fly species for use in maggot wound therapy. Singapore-based Cuprina Holdings announced the clearance for its therapeutic larvae, branded MediFly Maggots, making it the only company offering the new species.

Maggot therapy uses live larvae to clean dead tissue from stubborn wounds. The approach still lacks robust clinical data, but it retains a devoted following — complete with a low-tech fail-safe its proponents jokingly call "bacon therapy."
