Immunologist Derya Unutmaz of The Jackson Laboratory says GPT-5 Pro helped his lab revisit a puzzle that had stumped them since 2022: how glucose shapes the way T cells develop and specialize. T cells fight viruses and cancer, so understanding what steers their specialization could reshape treatments for cancer, autoimmune disease, and infections.
Unutmaz now calls AI indispensable to his research, saying working without it would be "like taking half of your brain away."
