OpenAI has officially broken ground on a massive 1-gigawatt data center campus in Saline, Michigan, named 'The Barn'. Built as part of OpenAI's ambitious 'Stargate' infrastructure initiative in partnership with Oracle and Related Digital, the facility aims to power the next generation of AI systems. The project will create more than 2,500 union construction jobs and plans to use a closed-loop cooling system to protect local water resources, with all infrastructure and energy costs funded directly by the project to avoid impacting local ratepayers.
